Processes
9.11.1
Using the 'Processes sheet' in the Risk Analysis
template complete a list of processes in your business. You will most likely need to
interview departmental heads and operational supervisors to ascertain and
identify individual processes. Often one process is made up of several smaller
processes. Get down to the 'lowest common denominator' wherever possible,
however the object of the exercise is to identify risk, so don't lose sight of
the woods from the trees.

In the first column, enter the name of the
process you have identified.
9.11.3
In the second column, enter a score between 1
and 5 for the importance of the process in your day-to-day operations, where 1
indicates low importance and 5 indicates high importance.
9.11.4
In the third column, assess the impact on
operations if that process is disrupted. 1 indicates low impact, and 5
indicates high impact.
9.11.5
In the fourth column, determine your current
back-up status, where 1 indicates you have full back-up in place and ready, and
5 indicates there is no back-up in place for this process.
9.11.6
Finally add together the scores in column 2, 3
& 4 and place the total in the fifth column.
9.11.7
The score you are looking to reach is the lowest
score possible. A total score of 3 points would indicate that this process is
least important, has least impact if disrupted, and you have full back-up in
place and ready anyway.
9.11.8
Conversely a total score of 15 would indicate
that this process is extremely important, the impact if disrupted would be
disastrous and currently no back-up is in place. A process with a score of 15
would need immediate and top priority attention.

Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine have identified a potential new way to vaccinate against avian flu. By delivering vaccine via DNA constructed to build antigens against flu, along with a minute electric pulse, researchers have immunized experimental animals against various strains of the virus. This approach could allow for the build up of vaccine reserves that could be easily and effectively dispensed in case of an epidemic.
