PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS FOR BUSINESSES

The following Pandemic Response Status Table has been designed to allow users to 'calibrate' their pandemic response activities with either The World Health Organization's pandemic response alert phases or with their country's own pandemic response alert phases. We recommend businesses align with the local alert response phases.

This is because it is probable that the W.H.O. will raise their alert levels long before it is necessary for local authorities to raise their alert levels.

If, for example there is increased human-to-human transmission in say, Indonesia, then the W.H.O. may raise their alert levels, even though it may be several weeks before any human-to-human cases are reported in other countries, if at all if the outbreak can be contained in this instance.

To raise the local alert status unnecessarily or too far ahead of time could serve to desensitize your staff's appreciation of the threat, and a sort of 'cry wolf' situation may arise.

The level of alert response deployed will depend on the progress of spread of the virus globally, and as perceived danger levels increase.

You should use the Pandemic Response Status Table alerts to trigger your own preparedness plans such as travel policies and office access control arrangements, depending on which alert response status is put into effect.

You must closely monitor both the World Health Organization's and the local Pandemic Response Alert Levels and be ready to initiate all or aspects of your pandemic response plans accordingly.

Special pandemic Travel Policies may need to come into effect before your local Pandemic Response Alert Levels are increased.

A pandemic goes through different response phases. As a reminder, be aware of the different alert level response systems which may be mapped against the company's internal alert response system:
